SANNIO BARBERA (THELEMAKO) D.O.C. The Sannio Barbera (Thelemako) DOC is produced from the Babera grape, a native grape of southern Italy not to be confused with the homonym variety from the Piedmont region in northern Italy. Thelemako, or Telemachus, was the son of Ulysses in Homer’s classics, the Odyssey and the Iliad. A young but mature man, he replaced his father to tend the flocks and to cultivate vineyards from which grapes were picked for wine making in the beautiful Ionic Islands. In one
story, Thelemako organizes a banquet for the suitors Proci to whom he
serves a lot of good wine in order to allow his father, disguised as
mendicant, to get into the banquet room and take revenge. It is in the
Odyssey that Homer describes him as a young modern man for that time
with a tendency to the future, but in respect of family tradition. It has
some of the flavor characteristics you would find in a but with higher
acid levels. The higher acid With its
deep ruby red color and pleasing floral aromas, this full-bodied wine
is rich with dark fruits and a long, velvety finish. Pairs well with
rich meats, wild game, and medium cheeses. Area of
